Monitoring activities are conduct throw sea patrols by public service vessels, also any other available source of information on alleged pollution (Safe Sea Net) is considered grounds for investigation. The legal basis for the investigation of incidents of pollution can be found in the the Maritime Code, which prescribes the obligation of a ship’s master to inform the Ministry of any pollution occurred. The Ministry or its Maritime safety inspectors shall conduct an impartial investigation of any pollution reported, and conduct or initiate the infringement procedure.
